Nathaly Pinzon
She was a work-integrated learning (WIL) student from Griffith University at Datarwe from July to September 2021. She is now currently a summer intern.
How long were you an intern at Datarwe? 3 months.
What was your internship project about? The project consisted of making the MIMIC-III electronic medical record interoperable by making it comply with the FHIR standard, using different management tools to facilitate the ETL migration process.
Are you currently studying, what are you studying? Yes, I am doing my master’s degree in IT majoring in Information Systems and Business Analysis.
What was your favourite thing about working at Datarwe? Hearing about the projects the company is working on, from people who are truly passionate about what they are doing, is very reassuring that the best results will be obtained.
What is the most important skill you have gained from your internship? Confidence, as I was able to put into practice what I had learned in environments that I had not thought of before, and this gave me a broader perspective of my abilities.
What do you have in store beyond your internship? Dedicate time to work on what I like while I am finishing my studies.
Julio Pimentel
WIL Student from Griffith University, he was a Datarwe intern from mid-July to mid-October 2021. He is now currently employed as a consultant at KJR continuing work with Datarwe projects.
How long were you an intern at Datarwe? My internship lasted 12 weeks.
What was your internship project about? My project aimed to develop NLP (Natural Language Processing) models in AWS capable of detecting relevant information from unstructured text such as Microbiology Reports.
Are you currently studying, what are you studying? This was my last trimester of the Master of Information Technology at Griffith University.
What was your favourite thing about working at Datarwe? I enjoyed the work environment and the creative vibe. Everyone was willing to help and made me feel comfortable during my internship.
What is the most important skill you have gained from your internship? Developing deep learning models in AWS. I had some experience developing machine learning models but never developed models using real-world data in the cloud.
What do you have in store beyond your internship? I believe that the mission and vision of Datarwe can make a fundamental change in people’s lives. All the improvements in the healthcare industry will benefit us all.
Dhruval Shah
Dhruval did a 12 week internship at Datarwe through Australian Internships.
How long were you an intern at Datarwe? I was intern in Datarwe for 12 weeks.
What was your internship project about? I was working on the septic shock project during my internship. In this project my task was to check the patient data and compare the accuracy of all patients data. And, I also work on another Java Script project as well.
Are you currently studying, what are you studying? I have completed my study on July 2019 from Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
What was your favourite thing about working at Datarwe? My favourite thing about working at Datarwe is the people, connecting on the daily scrum meetings and throughout the day.
What is the most important skill you have gained from your internship? I had no idea about python but during internship I learnt many things about python 🐍. It boosted my confidence in the field of coding.
What do you have in store beyond your internship? Beyond my internship, I made really good friends and contacts for the rest of my life.
TOOBA MEDDEKAR
Tooba was doing a WIL Student placement with Datarwe from August 2021 to October 2021. She is now a summer intern.
How long were you an intern at Datarwe? 3 months.
What was your internship project about? Describing the data, putting medical records in to a readable file format.
Are you currently studying, what are you studying? Masters of IT.
What was your favourite thing about working at Datarwe? The culture. Good balance in workload.
What is the most important skill you have gained from your internship? Working autonomously, confidence to work alone.
What do you have in store beyond your internship? Finishing studies, hopefully get a job as a data analyst.
DANIAL BAHUDIN
Danial is a graduate doctor and soon to be a medical intern at the Princess Alexandra hospital. He helped our data science team on different projects thanks to his medical expertise.
How long were you an intern at Datarwe? 3 months
What was your internship project about? My main internship project was using tree-based machine learning models to predict in-hospital mortality outcomes for patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage using the first 24 hour ICU data. I was also involved with other EMR projects along the way including the microbiology and referral projects and visualization tools.
Are you currently studying, what are you studying? I completed my medical studies at Bond University in 2021. I am currently a junior doctor at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.
What was your favourite thing about working at Datarwe? The support from the team, especially from the data scientists who were willing to teach me lots along the way. Thank you, Tina!
What is the most important skill you have gained from your internship? I learnt a lot about the more technical side of AI/ML development, which was an invaluable experience alongside my clinical knowledge. I also learnt how to use AWS.
What do you have in store beyond your internship? I hope to pursue a career in critical care medicine and use my technical data science skills to push for more AI/ML research & opportunities in this clinical specialty.
CALUM MACKENZIE
Calum completed a 12 week internship at Datarwe. He was then hired by KJR as a casual consultant and he is still working on Datarwe’s projects.
How long were you an intern at Datarwe? I was an intern for about 3 months from November 2021 to February 2022.
What was your internship project about? My project mainly focused on taking a machine learning model developed by Datarwe, and modifying it so that it could be easily deployed to the cloud. The ML model was developed to help detect irregular heartbeat patterns in patient heartbeat data.
Are you currently studying, what are you studying? I am currently studying a Bachelor of Computer Science at Griffith University. I have completed 3 years of study, and am graduating in June 2022.
What was your favourite thing about working at Datarwe? The free mentos 😉 Also the smart and helpful team that I was working with that were always available to answer questions and queries that I had.
What is the most important skill you have gained from your internship? The ability to easily move from working in-person to working online. Throughout the internship I was forced to do this due to Covid restrictions, however I was able to allow it to not hinder me during work. I have also developed skills in multiple fields that will be incredibly helpful in future study and in future job opportunities such as teamwork, communication and collaboration.
What do you have in store beyond your internship? I’m hoping to continue working at Datarwe / KJR as a paid intern. Upon graduation from university I would love to work in the fields of AI and Machine Learning alongside working with concepts such as Data Science as these fields are highly in demand and are constantly evolving and changing.
