What is it?
A real-time, clinician-designed tool for tracking nursing workload across the ICU.
The challenge
Nursing workloads are often underestimated and inconsistently measured, leading to staff burnout, unfair allocation, bed block, surgical cancellations and risk to patient care.
How it works
The ICU Nursing Workload Tracker is a secure, real-time analytics solution that translates live electronic medical-record (EMR) data and brief nurse feedback into a single Resource Intensity Score (RIS) for every critical-care bed.
More than 500 bedside indicators, identified and prioritised by ICU nurses, stream automatically into the system, while nurses add quick, end-of-shift ratings of workload and resource use. A continuously updated statistical model blends these inputs to highlight which factors are truly driving effort and stress, giving nurse managers early warning of workload spikes and allowing them to balance skill mix, share heavy tasks, and maintain staff wellbeing without exposing identifiable patient information outside hospital firewalls.
